The story of the Philadelphia band Grayscale

The legendary American rock band from Pennsylvania was founded by five local enthusiasts. In a relatively short period of time, the group has achieved large-scale success, rising from its industrial district to the forefront of the country. Beginnings and the establishment of the musical group

The Philadelphia band’s formal history began in 2011. Grayscale was formed by five aspiring rock musicians: Collin Walsh, solo guitarist and backup vocalist Andrew Kyne, backup vocalist and rhythm guitarist Dallas Molster, drummer Nick Veno and bassist Derek Parker. Due to personal differences, the latter quit the band in 2016. The bass guitarist was replaced by Nick Ventimiglia, who still represents the Grayscale band today.

From the very beginning of their musical activity, they maintained their own style and genre, rock music. Later, they began to release singles in the pop-punk genre more often. Since the band has always experimented with many styles, describing their main style of play is challenging. Although it is worth mentioning that, for the most part, they did not venture much beyond the boundaries of the rock genre.

A few years after its formation, the band had captured the local scene as well as the hearts of local listeners. Following the release of the first mini-album, they rose to prominence throughout the United States of America. This was largely made possible thanks to the record label Fearless Records, which the band signed a contract with. Also, owing to the same label, they were able to release a single and music video for their first song, as well as their debut album “Adornment”.

Discography and recognition

The band from Philadelphia gained recognition after making a cover of the track “Love Yourself” for the album, a hit by pop artist Justin Bieber. The band released the aforementioned version of a well-known artist’s song in the summer of 2017, and today it is one of the most popular songs from the band.

In general, under the direction of the Fearless Records studio, in addition to the previously stated “Adornment,” the following pieces were released: “Nella Vita” and “Umbra.” The latest project, according to rock vocalist Collin Walsh, has helped the musical group truly discover themselves. The band adhered to this level in the future. They recorded even more authentic tracks that depicted the atmosphere of their daily lives and routines.

The great song “Live Again” is particularly dear to the band’s leader, Collin Walsh. The touching work is dedicated to Walsh’s father, who struggled with an incurable disease.

From 2013 until 2022, the musical group issued four additional mini-albums, including “Leaving”, “Change”, “What We’re Missing” and “Antumbra”.

Back then, tours around the country were extremely vital in extending the band’s activity. The tours around the United States of America contributed to their songs receiving more promotion and gaining new admirers around the country.

At the same time, album promotion tours were held with other well-known pop-punk bands including “Belmont”, “Bearings” and “Rich People”. The band’s leader described these large-scale performances as “a killer show with killer energy every night,” highlighting the band’s passion for the scene. Rock musicians particularly recall the concert that they gave in their native Philadelphia when presumably the entire population of the city gathered to enjoy their music.

In January 2020, Grayscale announced that they will headline some media projects in the UK and Europe, as well as open several performances for the popular American band “Four Year Strong.”

In interviews with music media, representatives of Grayscale revealed that they formerly took inspiration for songs from singers such as Bruno Mars, Michael Jackson and Prince.
